Early Morning Bruises.

One of the great things I love about my life is all the great KUNG FU!  It was a tough decision back in the day to leave a commercial school to go back onto my own.  I was in semi-private sessions before I went there and once I got a taste of the fighting that every one else got... i didn't much care for it.

Since 2005 we have gone back to training the way we used to.  That means no tapping to the head and yelling out POINT, no silly pads that offer no protection, and NO WHINING.  It is a lot of fun when you get good folks together that like to bang around and have no ego about who is running things... because none of us care who's running things. The only problem is that there is not a lot of teachers around that prefer it the way we do.  That means I have to travel a lot for my own training and then bring it back to the kids so that everyone can have a chance to play.

It can be mildly exhausting.

Well, i am off to do an early morning beatdown with one of the boys. Since I work at night my time is limited but because we call the shots we can workout whenever some one is available.

Good times

TYPE Casting is a Hit

A little taste of the next segment of TYPE Casting.  Street Tough will present hero TYPES that are made for the grim and gritty streets of your campaigns.  These are not the heroes that live in the black and white moralities that flavor the average books.  The TYPES have tasted the street and the only way to bring order to it is to live amidst the Gray.

Thanks again to all the great BASH! fans who have come out to support this series.  You guys are the best!

And don't forget to check us out on the BAMF! Podcast where myself and Andrew Collas, as well as our host, Mike Lafferty, set off talking about what makes a great comic and Zenith Comics intends to do just that.  Give us a listen!

And to go along with our glorious announcements, check out some of the promo art that goes with it!

Check out the latest in the TYPE Casting series
From the dark reaches of space comes COSMIC CRUSADERS, the third installment of the TYPE Casting series.  This issue displays five space themed archetypes to use for your BASH UE games.  Each type comes with a High and Low end template, plus plenty of options to help players jump right in and Narrators to season to taste (to help or hinder their players)!

Want a preview?  GRAB IT HERE

Oh... the internet is a monster that cannot be tamed.  I just wish it wasn't so hard on those of us that really don't have the time for it.  So after reviewing the buckets of options out there we decided to go with Wordpress for the best option for the Zenith comics Web presence.  It allows for lots of options and folks to be able to respond to the various updates as well as for us to have the max control over the content and the ease to use it as we see fit.  Also it will be the cheapest option rather than setting up brand new web pages as well as huge migrations and uploads to my server (which I need to do some massive spring cleaning to).

We'll see where this takes us after the new year.  NOW... what I really need is a brand manager to run the damn thing and post to it regularly so we can get some stuff going.

Anyone, for those folks keeping track, next on the chopping block for the TYPE Casting series for BASH! rpg is  Street Tough.  It was supposed to come out right after Mind Force but I had art in from Dan Houser before the core artist got his done (I always look so guilty when I look in the mirror).  Look for it soon from fine e-tailers everywhere.

On Wednesday we released MIND FORCE, a BASH! UE Supplement. This marks a new direction for us as we are going to be taking over all game aspects for the Zenith Comics Group. Zenith Prime, aka, Andrew Collas will be going after the comics side of the house. This allows each of us to focus our energy on what we both enjoy, comics and games.

Walt

Ok so it has been a while. Understandable since I was injured, undergone major surgery, and have been learning to walk again.

Yeah I know... blah blah blah. In any case, This was my latest project in association with newcomer Zenith Comics. You can pick it up at RPGNow in either BASH, ICONS, or Villains and Vigilantes flavor.

Enjoy,
Walt

Lots of Old School art requests lately. This is not only bringing me back to the early 2000's, but also slapping me around with visions from when i was a teen playing D&D with my friends and dreaming about some day being a hero.

The good news, Gaming has given rise to a good imagination that allows my creativity to spill out over the page... the bad news... I'm still trying to live up to that hero ideal.

...Someday...

This is the Knight you have been waiting for.

I love going back through old sketches and seeing how my "style" has changed. The good thing is that as I clear out all this old art, I find there are a good many places to repost them.

Enjoy,
Walt

I always say that I am back and of course, that things are going to be more regular and then I post four entries and disappear for six months. Yeah, major injuries will do that to you. But since I am somewhat of an adrenaline junkie, I have a tendency to divert my attention away from my art at times to other pursuits. Besides being an accidental artist, I have also been into martial arts since I was 8, I am a part time soldier (National Guard) and of course, a husband. Sometimes life is more than just pleasing your audience (all four of you).

IN any case I have been digging out some old art to post to the knights and knaves Old School Game website. Here is a taste:

Facebook shot my Blogger in the Face

Issue 5 of the Ashcan Edition is out and what a grand issue it is. Set up for the MARVELous 4C role playing game, there is just enough math to make everything work for 4C as well as just enough math to ensure that you could tailor it to your favorite Super Powered RPG Experience.

Next Month we will have the 6th issue of the mag and then it will be time for a little break. With six issues packed full of Super Hero Goodness... There is plenty to ensure that GM's and players alike have to put into their games if need be. We will also be posting regular updates to the Tumblr (which launches to Facebook and Twitter) account as well as to this blog

XRoads Chronicles (c) is NOT dead. We had the majority of the work done for it back in September but a combination of other paying work as well as military obligations (i HEART Camouflage) kept us from putting the spit and polish on it. It is near to completion but there are a number of other projects that have to launch before we can light the fire under Chronicles.

One of these projects involves a martial arts group that I belong to (First rule of fight club...). There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes involving the group which is going to take up the majority of time for the month of February. This involves going to see instructors from other states as well as training with the "regulars." As a side note, one of the soldiers that works with me has decided to take on the Modern Army Combatives All Guard Tournament. If you are not familiar with MACP (see above overly complicated combatives name), it is the United States Army's attempt at having solid martial arts training for their soldiers. By having it trained at lower levels in an MMA (Mixed Monkey Art... sorry just seeing if you were still reading) format and having tournaments, the military is hoping that they will encourage soldiers to not only be proficient in this "art" but also to seek out instructors for training at higher levels. Having been playing around with it for several years now, I like the fact that they used Filipino flow drills to instill all of the training. What I don't like is the constant push toward competitive format as some one like me wants the training so I can EFF Up a dude rather than tap him out. Oh well, I guess I can't have everything...

Hasn't stopped me from trying though.

Walt

Just tooling around...

Hazard Studio has been on vacation for the month of August... and so have I... technically. Aside from catching up on kung fool practice, loads of missed TV and lots of Video Games... I have been recharging and polishing stuff that has sat on the shelf for way too long.

IN any case... more to follow...

SCIENCE! and all things haywired...

ISSUE 3 of the Ashcan Edition is getting set to drop after a few setbacks. I am getting emails from the four fans of the magazine that i have asking why the June issue didn't drop. If I were a full time publisher or had a regular jobby job in the AM and then came home to nothing but publishing... I could get everything out on a regular basis.

But since that is not going to happen due to the fact that i have HLD (Hyper Life Disorder), I get the stuff out when I can. So, hopefully this month will see the release of two issues of the Ashcan before we take a small break for August (silly Military).

This month's edition will focus on the weird sciences. Those things that could be plausible even if they are not that possible. We have a nice line up as far as features and goodies for the mag as well as a nice showing of current and upcoming products. The magazine drops on July 13th.

The first two Ashcan's as well as a image portfolio can be downloaded from the HAZARD studio web store (run through LuLu). The store address is http://lulu.com/hazardstudio. Please stop by and take a peak as we have a nice little selection of stuff building (as well as the magazine being handled for free).

If you are interested in writing or drawing for the Ashcans Edition, please send me a note at kroh@hazardstudio.net . We would love to see more folks contributing their talents to the mag. so if you have a new product coming out that you would like to debut in the magazine, or you just want more folks to see your mad skill with your pencil... ahem... then shoot me a note so we can make you just shy of famous.

Walt

What a Mess...

Lots of good things happening around the HAZARD house at the moment... So much fun... so little time...

The Ashcan Edition, Issue 2 is out! Focusing on the normal folks in extraordinary circumstances, the issue has a lot of fun art and some cool features. Rounding out our guest section this month is the Threat Record. James Keck brings us a short adventure from his upcoming product, The Threat Record, where we get to use the villain, Flash Blind. The issue tops out at 19 pages and is a free release from Hazard Studios through LULU.COM. Hop on over to HAZARD Studio to get it from the main page!

Those publishers that want to advertise in the Ashcan Edition, the ad space is VERY reasonable. When you advertise in the Magazine, we guarantee a full page add with any supplemental art needed to fill the space constructed by us. Interested folks should go to the HAZARD Studio web page and send us an email.

HAZARD continues to spotlight martial arts by throwing out links to cool Youtube videos. This weeks edition features the martial art of Shorinji Kempo. Mixing religion with fighting style, this martial art preaches peace through hard contact. Works for us!

Good things are ahead... Stay Tuned for more,

Walt
